Positioned between the subcompact Trailblazer and the midsize Blazer, the Equinox occupies a pivotal position within Chevrolet's SUV portfolio. Following its most recent update for the 2022 model year, the Chevrolet Equinox enters the 2024 iteration with subtle refinements encompassing paint color variations and enhancements to its active driver assist features. Serving as Chevrolet's representation within the fiercely contested compact SUV segment.
New for 2024
The Equinox remains largely unchanged for the 2024 model year. The major exception being the upcoming electric version - the 2024 Equinox EV. Concurrently, the gasoline-driven iteration embraces refinement through the incorporation of two novel metallic paint options: Riptide Blue and Lakeshore Blue. Enhancing safety and driver assistance capabilities, Chevrolet has thoughtfully enhanced the Driver Confidence II package, now encompassing blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert functionalities. This upgraded package is now available even within the foundational LS trim level. Notably, this new and expanded package supersedes its predecessor, which only included rear parking sensors.
Performance & Fuel Economy
The Equinox comes with a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine that produces 175hp. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is an optional upgrade. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth shifting. Chevy designed the Equinox to be easy to drive and it hits the mark with this latest model. It handles well, and the steering is accurate. The Equinox can also tow up to 3500lbs.
Fuel Economy is rated at 26mpg city, and 31 mpg highway, and adding AWD will lower these values by 1 or 2 each.
Interior & Storage
The interior of the Equinox is tastefully designed and assembled using sturdy materials. People sitting in both the front and back seats should feel comfortable in the roomy space, with various features to keep them happy on longer journeys. You'll find plenty of places to hold cups, although many of the extra comforts inside are either available as added options for LT models or come standard on RS and Premier models. While some competitors provide more room behind the back seats, we were able to fit eight of our carry-on suitcases in there. Apart from a large storage compartment in the center console, the Equinox's cabin storage is about average.
Infotainment & Safety Features
The Equinox comes with the impressive Chevy MyLink system that offers an easy-to-use and snappy interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as well as bluetooth streaming for both calls and music. You can also connect your device via USB or aux input. The Equinox also has a WiFi hotspot available on a subscription basis.
