Pure Muscle and Thrills at a Good Price
Chevrolet is gearing up for a fresh chapter after over eight years of the current sixth-generation Camaro, with this year being the last year for the current generation. While we anxiously await the scoop on what's coming next, the current rendition of one of our cherished muscle cars is preparing to bow out. The 2024 Camaro lineup maintains its rear-wheel-drive configuration and offers a choice between two body styles: the classic coupe and the convertible with a softtop.
Under the hood, there's a range of powertrains to suit your taste. You've got the 335-horsepower V-6 option, and for those who crave exhilaration, there's the heart-pounding 455-horsepower V-8 engine. If you're into the ultimate performance thrill, you can check out the high-powered 650-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Interestingly, the Camaro's rivals from across town have taken different paths – Ford with its fresh Mustang and Dodge with its cherished Challenger. Chevrolet promises that the Camaro will return in due course, and it's safe to assume that it will likely incorporate some form of electrification. While we eagerly await what Chevy will give us next year, let's enjoy the thrilling rumble of its pushrod V-8 engine in the meantime.
New for 2024
Chevrolet is celebrating the grand finale of the sixth-generation Camaro set to be released in 2024. This doesn't mark the complete end of the Camaro legacy, but rather a significant moment honoring the sixth generation, which has been captivating enthusiasts since its debut in the 2016 model year. This commemoration will take the form of a distinguished Collector's Edition designed specifically for the Camaro's final year.
The Collectors Edition will come with black paint, special badging, upgraded wheels, special trim, and other goodies. It is expected to cost between $5-6K for the standard models and $15K on the ZL1, which receives further enhancement and a limited run of 350 units.
AutoNation Chevrolet Gilbert is committed to Chevrolet's legacy and innovation. We share in the excitement of this milestone and eagerly await shipments of this Collector's Edition and any potential final releases. Quantities will be limited so be sure to reach out for updates and to claim your part of this historic moment in automotive history. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Engine & Performance
The base powertrain of the Camaro comprises a 335-hp V-6 engine that can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. This robust V-6 engine delivers a distinct and exhilarating sound profile. However, the ultimate performance upgrade comes with the optional small-block V-8 engine, boasting an impressive 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The V-8 engine's exceptional low-end torque, linear power distribution, and exhilarating acceleration are further enhanced by the optional dual-mode exhaust. The exhaust system produces a sharp bark at startup and thunderous roars during wide-open-throttle accelerations. Similar to the V-6, the V-8 engine is available with a six-speed manual transmission, catering to the enthusiast's spirit, while a 10-speed automatic transmission remains an alternative choice.
In cars without the 1LE package, the standard transmission is the six-speed manual. The Camaro's outstanding chassis establishes an exceptional connection between car and driver, showcasing unparalleled performance among pony cars. Its robust structure contributes to precise handling and a sense of quality. The well-balanced ride strikes a firm yet agile balance on curvy roads while remaining compliant on rough surfaces.
When combined with the 1LE setup, these coupes exceed the norms of their class, rivaling high-end sports cars at significantly lower costs. The 1LE-equipped models demonstrate remarkable performance on the track while offering relaxed driving experiences on regular roads. The electrically assisted power-steering systems deliver manageable efforts and highly accurate responses. Additionally, the Camaro excels in its performance trifecta with outstanding brakes, providing a consistently progressive and reassuring response. The 1LE models are equipped with even more powerful, track-ready Brembo brakes for enhanced performance.
The V-6-equipped Camaro has a rated fuel efficiency of up to 18 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway. The V-8 models offer slightly lower fuel economy, with ratings of 16 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Interior & Comfort
The Camaro's interior is an improvement versus the previous generation, with better materials and a more modern look. Its comfortable front seats and straightforward layout are high points, but its torturously small back seat and compromised visibility inhibit its practicality as a people carrier. An optional head-up display is useful and not offered in the Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang. The Camaro also can be equipped with customizable ambient interior lighting, which adds a cool appearance. The Chevy outshines its rivals on the track and in the fun-to-drive department, but its back seat is basically unusable for adults. The Camaro is also outmatched in terms of cargo space and interior storage. It held the least amount of carry-on luggage compared to its space-stingy rivals and has a laughably small trunk opening.
Technology
Each Camaro features a user-friendly touchscreen supporting Chevy's Infotainment 3 software. The larger 8.0-inch touchscreen offers better coverage of space compared to previous models. Overall, the combination of controls and well-organized menus is well-received and provides a user-friendly interface. Chevy's system comes with a complete standard package, including intuitive controls, visually appealing menus, responsive feedback, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Notably, these connectivity features can be accessed without the need to plug a smartphone into a USB port.
